Located by the coastline, the restaurant serves Asian and Western meals with a selection of fine wines. Room service is available.

Resort Gem Island is a 15-minute boat ride from Marang Jetty. From the jetty, it is a 30-minute drive from the Kuala Terengganu Airport.

We arrived mid-week to find that there was only one other couple on the entire island. I went snorkelling and saw rays, frogfish, sharks and parrotfish. Our accommodation was clean and comfortable. The staff are attentive. The food was great with large portions. We'll be back.

Gem Island Resort & Spa was the third island of an island-hopping fortnight down the East coast of West Malaysia. We stopped for three nights and the cost per night was the highest on our trip we had no regrets paying as the rooms were of a good size with a balcony looking across the water to Kapas Island. Breakfast was included good but limited, we purchased dinner each night which were very good but we did not purchase any alcohol which was very expensive. As we found with other Island Resorts the beach chairs were limited and not in a very good state of repair also why charge for the use of any equipment on their small beach? We would go back again as the water was so clear making snorkelling fantastic.

It was our second stay. First time was 13 years ago. As always your worry whether the magic is still there. We are so happy to report: yes, it is still a magical place. But only if you love swimming, especially snorkeling, tranquility, calm. If you are after loud night life don't go there. We really loved everything: our room, food (was very good), the atmosphere, sense of hospitality. The manager Irene Leow is amazing. She can be warm and strict at the same time. Strict when it is needed. Because of her the place is running so smoothly. It is not an easy task at so remote and isolated location. Thank you Irene, and everybody else at this wonderful place.

This little gem was a wonderful find for us. The 26 year old water villas could use a bit of upgrade but overall that is immaterial to what you find in the waters surrounding this island. Reef sharks, turtles, colourful corals and fishes just outweighed the standard of the villas. Excellent food. We are so well every day. Bring your own alcohol as price can be a bit ridiculous even for a low quality of wine. Selection of beers are also limited. Overall we had great 3 nights away. Transfer was smooth. Wasn’t overcrowded. A little gem tucked away from the busy town. Not a bad choice if you need some short getaway.

Q : How can I get to Gem Island Resort ?

A : You may take a flight to Kuala Terengganu (TGG) or self drive to MARANG Jetty (south of Kuala Terengganu).

Q : How long is the drive from Kuala Terengganu airport to MARANG Jetty ?

A : The journey takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic flow

Q : Which jetty should I board the speed boat to the resort ?

A : The jetty to Gem Island Resort is MARANG Jetty (Caution : There is another jetty called Merang Jetty which is north of Kuala Terengganu – this is NOT the jetty)

Q : Where do I park my car if I decide to drive ?

A : You may park your car at the allotted parking bays at the Jetty and the rate is RM9 per night. Please make sure all your cars are locked.

Q : What is the maximum capacity (sleeping arrangement) for each villa ?

A : Maximum 3 adults (3rd adult is chargeable) or 2 adults and 2 children (3 to 11 years old). Children in accompanying villa are chargeable

Q : What are the boat schedules available ?

A : There are 4 schedules daily.
From Marang Jetty to Gem Island – 9.00 am, 11.00 am, 1.00 pm and 3.00 pm
From Gem Island to Marang Jetty – 9.30 am, 11.30 am, 1.30 pm and 3.30 pm
Note : Due to Friday prayers, there will be no 1.00 pm and 1.30 pm schedule on Fridays only

Q : How long is the boat ride (Marang Jetty to Gem Island) and distance from jetty to the resort ?

A : The boat ride is approximately 15 to 20 minutes and distance is approximately 8 km.

Q : When I arrive at the jetty, who shall we look for ?

A : Upon arrival at Marang Jetty, please look for Surialink Boat Services and they will be able to send you to the resort.

Q : What are the activities available at the Resort ?

A : The resort provide activities like guided snorkeling, kayaking, squid fishing and diving activities (for certified divers) or Discovery Scuba.

Q : Can I do fishing at the resort ?

A : Gem Island Resort is situated in a gazetted marine conservation park, therefore fishing is not allowed within 3 km from the resort. However, we can make arrangements for fishing activities outside the gazette zone.

Q : Are pets allowed at the resort ?

A : In respect for guests of all faith, we strictly DO NOT ALLOW PETS at the resort.

Q : Can you confirm if there is a break in electricity supply daily ?

A : Yes. There is a break of 3 hours electricity supply between 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm daily.

Q : What are the amenities available in the villas ?

A : There is a kettle in the villa with tea & coffee sachets available and Chinese tea is also available for your convenience. There will be daily replenish of mineral water (2 bottles) per villa per day.

Q : What other amenities are available in the villas ?

A : We provide bath gel and hair shampoo for our shower room

Q : Do you provide hair dryer in the villa ?

A : You may request from Front Desk should you require a hair dryer.

Q : Can I bring my own drinks (alcoholic or non alcoholic) to the resort ?

A : There will be corkage charges for all drinks brought for consumption at the resort. Canned drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) is RM8 per can, Wine is RM80 per bottle, Hard liquor is RM100 per bottle and bubbly (Champagne) is RM80 per bottle
